Little Beaks Small Bird Community in ATTADALE, Western Australia for sale

Small birds including budgies, finches, canaries, lovebirds and others are very popular pets in Australia, and around the world. Unfortunately, due to lack of information and education combined with unsuitable products for sale, and lack of regulation, many of these birds are neglected or receive inadequate care, even from owners with the best of intentions.
We've started a Facebook page called 'Little Beaks', providing assistance with advice, welfare and rehoming for small pet birds in the Perth area.
We are NOT avian vets or animal behaviourists; we are simply bird enthusiasts passionate about their welfare, and have experience in the care of a variety of birds, so we want to help other bird enthusiasts. If you have any concerns about the health of your bird, you should consult an avian vet ASAP.

As a starting guide, here are a few basic care points, essential to a budgie's wellbeing:
- Budgies fly ACROSS, not up and down, therefore they need a cage which is WIDER than it is tall.
- The only suitable cages are rectangular; round cages or any cage with decorative features (eg. dome or triangular [roof shaped] tops) only limit whatever space a budgie has available to fly in.
- The absolute MINIMUM sized cage for a single budgie is 45cm L, 45cm H, 45cm W (or 18"). However, this size should ONLY be used if the budgie generally has free flight and only sleeps in the cage. For more information on cage sizes see http://talkbudgies.com/showthread.php?t=24411
- Please speak to an avian (bird specialist) vet about appropriate food for your bird - a diet of seed alone is generally not nutiritionally adequate and can cause problems.
- Mental stimulation is important; a variety of bird toys should be provided to your bird to prevent boredom and other issues.
